The Chest Utilises the HK$10 million Donation from Tencent to Offer Care Kits for Children, the Elderly and Healthcare Workers Affected by Ferocious Outbreak
2022-02-24
Families with children, the elderly and healthcare workers are particularly vulnerable in the fifth wave of the pandemic. To provide timely support to these people, The Chest has utilised the HK$10 million Tencent generously donated for offering essential items that will help them to cope with COVID-19.

The funds have been used to procure a wide array of items, including antigen rapid test kits, fever reducers, face shields, vitamin C, nutritious soup packs, masks, cooling gel pads for kids and heating pads. For a more precise support, more than 25,000 care kits will be prepared according to the needs of the beneficiary groups. Fifty member agencies of the Chest will help distribute the kits to beneficiaries all over the city.

Mr Dowson Tong, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent and CEO of the Cloud & Smart Industries Group, said: “The current pandemic situation in Hong Kong is serious. Children, the elderly, and healthcare workers are among those most affected by the pandemic, and we hope such donation would support them to cover their most critical needs. By working together, we can overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Dr Simon Kwok, Chairman of the Chest’s Executive Committee, said: “We are deeply grateful for Tencent’s generous donation, as it enables the Chest to provide much-needed assistance to needy families, the elderly and healthcare workers. In time of urgent need, we need to make every possible effort to help the vulnerable.”

At this critical juncture, the Chest would like to reiterate its appeal and call upon members of the community to spread kindness and extend our helping hands to help those in need.
