The Community Chest (The Chest) is blessed with the tremendous support of individual and corporate supporters in the 2022/2023 campaign year. Over $285 million was raised to support social services provided by 168 member agencies and designated funds set up for special purposes, without deduction of administrative expenses. The Chest is grateful to all donors and charity partners for their generosity, enabling the Chest to contribute to Hong Kong over the past decades.
At the Annual Awards Ceremony held at Government House on Friday, 13 October 2023, the Chest recognised major corporate donors and individuals for their generous contributions. Mrs Janet Lee, President of the Chest, officiated at the event and presented awards to the Top Ten Donors, major donors in three special award categories and the President’s Award. “As a home-grown charitable organisation for more than half a century, the Chest has been working closely with our charity partners to offer diversified social services to the less fortunate, and is committed to making positive impact in the community.” Mrs Lee said.
The Top Donor, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has been a major valuable charity partner of the Chest since the very beginning. Thanks to the bank and The Hongkong Bank Foundation’s generous donations, matching donations, special initiatives and staff participation in many Chest events, timely and effective assistance can be provided to people in need.
The Second Top Donor, Cheung Kong Group, is widely acclaimed for its philanthropic spirit. The Group is a long-term staunch supporter of the Chest, especially the dollar-to-dollar matching scheme for the donation hotlines of the annual TV show, enabling the Chest to scale up the impact of donations made by the public.
The Third Top Donor, The Wharf Group, has a long-standing ethos of good corporate citizenship, and is committed to giving back to the society. The Group is a long-term supporter of the Chest’s Corporate and Employee Contribution Programme and Dress Casual Day.
The Fourth to Tenth Top Donor Awards were presented to Tencent Charity Foundation, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, Hang Seng Bank, Mr Cheng Hsu Shih and Mrs Cheng Kwee Moei Hong Mary, The S.H. Ho Foundation Limited, Kong Yiu Man Charitable Foundation Limited, Yeung Fun Bun Charitable Fund and Microware Limited, respectively.
The Partner in Charity Award went to The Hong Kong Jockey Club, whereas HKEX Foundation was recognised with the Partner of Charity Giving Award. In addition, Sing Tao News Corporation Limited was presented with The Community Chest Award for Outstanding Service.
