The Community Chest Short Films Programme “Cinema Quintet” Powered by Hang Seng Bank Five Renowned Directors Coach Students to Showcase Stories of Chest’s Beneficiaries
2023-11-21

Celebrating its 55th anniversary, the Community Chest of Hong Kong organised the “Cinema Quintet” –  a short films programme which aims to enhance engagement with the youths. This initiative enables the younger generation to understand the work of the Community Chest, and to manifest the spirit of Hong Kong people helping Hong Kong people.

The Community Chest is thrilled to have five esteemed directors – Mr Chan Chi Fat, Mr Chan Kin Long, Mr Ho Cheuk Tin, Mr Jun Li, and Mr Tsang Hing Weng – as mentors for this initiative. The five directors will each coach a participating team to produce a ten-minute microfilm based on beneficiary stories of the Chest’s member agencies. This project not only provides students with an opportunity to learn professional filmmaking, but also helps to foster their awareness of societal needs and to present their thoughts on different issues through visual storytelling.

“Cinema Quintet” invited the participation of students in October. Response was overwhelming and over seventy applications were received. The five directors and the participating students, along with Dr Pamela Chan, Chairman of the Community Chest Public Relations Committee, Ms Alice Kwok, Committee Member, and the sponsor representative Ms Betty Law, Head of Corporate Communications and Community Investments at Hang Seng Bank, attended a kick-off ceremony cum briefing day on 15 November. Each team will receive up to HK$150,000 as creative funding, and each will get technical support from One Cool Production.

The Community Chest would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Hang Seng Bank for its generous sponsorship to cover all expenses to make this initiative possible. The Chest also expresses deep appreciation to the five directors for their support and contribution. With these joint efforts, the students are expected to have a better understanding of the society and to broaden their horizons.
