The Community Chest 50th Annual General Meeting A Year of Celebrations
2019-06-26
At the Community Chest 50th Annual General Meeting held yesterday (June 27), President Mr Charles Y K Lee, GBM, JP gave a special thank-you to stakeholders – member agencies, beneficiaries, board and committees, donors, as well as the general public for their contribution to the organisation in the past 50 years, in the hope that such support is to continue in the years to come.
To celebrate the auspicious year with Chest friends and supporters, a series of anniversary events were organised, with efforts to engage young people, Mr Lee added.
In 2019/2020, over HK$296 million goes to the Chest’s 163 member social welfare agencies. In addition to the funding of regular services, over HK$60,310,000 is allocated to 22 Time Limited Projects (Attachment I), and more than HK$6 million on Capital Project Fund for renovation and enhancing facilities of 18 member agencies.
In terms of new agency admission, the Chest welcomed two new members. They are: Wu Oi Christian Centre which provides rehabilitation services to drug users, and public education about the dangers of drug use; and Youth Diabetes Action which sets up communication and support network for diabetic patients and their parents.
In 2018/2019, the Rainbow Fund allocated over HK$11 million to 3,700 beneficiaries, out of which more than HK$1.4 million was used to help families of victims from fatal accidents. The fund aims to provide immediate financial aid to people in emergency situations and financial crisis.
On the same occasion, 12 new members were elected to the 2019/2020 Board of Directors (Attachment II) for 12 nominees. After the meeting, Mr Charles Y K Lee, GBM, JP, expressed his gratitude to six retiring Board Members for their contribution to the Chest. They included Mr Lawrence Ho; Mr Kong Churk-hoi, Billy, BBS, MH, JP; Mr Lionel Lam Kin, PDSM, CPM; Ms Rose W M Lee, JP; Mr Lui Yiu-tung, Francis and Mr Charles C L Yang, BBS, JP.
