Pandemic Continues to Hit Economy and Livelihoods The Community Chest Pandemic Rainbow Fund Reopens for Application

The COVID-19 pandemic has been rampant over a year with economy and livelihoods being hard hit, thus causing unemployment, wage cuts and underemployment in many industries and sectors. In view of the severe and enduring impact, the Chest announced today (7 April) on the reopening of “The Community Chest Pandemic Rainbow Fund”.
Since the launch of the Pandemic Fund in mid-February 2020, the Chest had approved more than 9,600 cases and disbursed nearly HK$66.8 million to more than 24,300 people in need through the first and second round of applications as of 31 August 2020. The number of people inflicted by the pandemic remained high. Between September 2020 to January 2021, the ongoing Community Chest Rainbow Fund had approved 1,033 cases for low / no income individuals all of whom had suffered from unemployment, wage cuts and no-pay leave due to the pandemic. This figure was a 200% surge when compared to the same period a year ago (September 2019 to January 2020).
About “The Community Chest Pandemic Rainbow Fund” third round application details:
- Applications open from 7 April to 30 June 2021.
- Target beneficiaries are individuals and families inflicted by the pandemic, especially the unemployed and underemployed.
- Applicants can apply through the 96 assessment centres under the 27 partner agencies of The Community Chest Rainbow Fund. Social workers will do the assessment and disburse the grant to the approved case. - The grant amount will range from HK$2,000 to HK$10,000, depending on the family size.
