The Community Chest Wheelock Swim for Millions Raises Fund to Youth Services
The 5th Community Chest Wheelock Swim for Millions will take place on 24 September (Sunday) at Repulse Bay Beach. Since its first launch in 2013, every dollar raised in this event goes to the youth services provided by member agencies of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. One of those service providers is TREATS and 20 of their mentally challenged teenagers will perform K-pop dance and play African drums to cheer for all the generous swimmers on the day.
The young people are from Saviour Lutheran School. Most of them have participated in TREATS project "Integrate! – Youth Development and Training Project on Integration", which promotes integration through understanding social inclusion concepts, community education and training in various performance with youth with different abilities. These experiences help build their self-confidence and change their life for better. The presence of the performers at The Community Chest Wheelock Swim for Millions serves to highlight the good cause of the day.
Swim for Millions has gained popularity since it was first held in 2013. The 4 x 200 Corporate Relay Race is newly added this year, following the introduction of the non-competitive Swim for Fun in 2016. Both of them aim at offering more options for the swimmers and encouraging people to enjoy swimming. While the races are on, family members and friends of the participants can enjoy themselves at the games booths and bouncy castle, or engage in building sand castles.
The event is led by Organising Committee Chairman Mr Douglas Woo JP, and Co-chairmen: Mr Stephen Fung, Mr Weber Lo, Mr Victor Pang, Mr Stanley Sun and Mr Jonathan Zeman. The Community Chest is grateful to receive support from title sponsor Wheelock and major sponsors: Citi, Kidea and Lan Kwai Fong Group.
The Chest also would like to thank the supporting organisations: Community Chest PCSch Volunteer, The Hong Kong Life Saving Society, Hong Kong Sea School and St John Ambulance Brigade.
Swim for Millions will be held on 24 September, attracting swimming lovers to come to Repulse Bay Beach.
Show time for the teenagers who have participated in TREATS "Integrate! – Youth Development and Training Project on Integration" in Swim for Millions 2017.
About The Community Chest of Hong Kong
The Community Chest of Hong Kong was established in 1968 as an independent, non-profit making organisation neither funded, nor operated by the Government. Each year, the Chest organises fund-raising events to benefit over 160 member social welfare agencies that reach out to more than two million beneficiaries in Hong Kong in six major areas of services: children & youth, elderly, family & child welfare, medical & health, rehabilitation & aftercare, and community development. The Chest’s administrative expenses come from a subsidised grant from our partner-in-charity, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, in addition to income from investments. This allows the Chest to allocate 100% of funds raised to charitable use; this operations model makes the Chest unique among its peers, and helps fulfil its mission to act as trustee of the donors.
